For breakfast I eat a bowl of Coco-Nutty Granola with homemade almond milk.  Right now I’m loving the addition of puffed buckwheat and amaranth, which are both packed with protein (buckwheat and amaranth are seeds so are fine for those who are gluten intolerant or Paleo).

This health habit is weird…but it really does work: I cook as a form of meditation. When I immerse myself in the task I lose everything else around me.  It’s a great way to wind down.
My favourite sugar-free dish is the cauliflower pizza from I Quit Sugar For Life.  There is degenerative rheumatoid arthritis in my family, (a form of auto-immune disease) so we eat sugar free and mostly grain free too.  This recipe is a winner.  What kid says no to melted cheese?  We top the pizza with heirloom cherry tomatoes* and I make hemp-seed pesto.  Hemp is a high protein seed containing all nine essential amino acids. It also has high amounts of fatty acids and fibre as well as containing vitamin E and the correct balance of omega 3 and 6 fats that best benefit our body.  I blend 1/2 cup of hemp seeds with 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 bunch of basil, the juice of 1 lemon and 1/2 a clove garlic and drizzle it on top of the pizza.  The fat from the hemp seeds helps to slow down the release of fructose from the tomatoes.
