We happened upon Carla Thomas, in the comments section of the I Quit Sugar blog posts, of all places. Not only was Carla commenting on all of our content, but she was also answering a lot of your questions as well. A bit of further investigation revealed that in fact, Carla was more than qualified to be taking part so we decided to get her on in a more official capacity and asked her to join our I Quit Sugar Experts Panel.

As a holistic counsellor, with a focus on mind-body health, my motivation and inspiration is to help people make positive changes to their lives through the key principles of whole food nutrition and ongoing wellbeing. Drawing on my own past health issues, I’m aware of how bad habits such as radical dieting and over-analysing your body and overall appearance can affect your long-term relationship with food and be a barrier to pursuing a better, healthier lifestyle.
Why are you such a firm believer in the IQS philosophy?
I have always believed processed sugar is toxic to us and after completing my own 8-Week journey back in August 2013, I realised how easily we can become addicted to sugar from all kinds of foods, not just the obvious ones. I firmly believe following a sugar-free life doesn’t deprive you. It actually enhances your life and senses. After all, doesn’t everyone want to be in a state of true happiness and health without having to rely on a little sugar for help?
The IQS Team are coming for dinner. What are you cooking us?
Well, I’ve been known as the salad queen but I do like to mix things up. My go-to dish is probably a simple but jazzed up bright and colourful salad that includes some nuts and seeds for crunch factor and a lemon and olive oil based dressing, with crispy skin salmon or chicken on the side. I’m not much of a baker or sweets gal so dessert would likely be a cup of tea with some 90% dark chocolate and berries!

Keep it simple. Rather than looking for short-term, unrealistic approaches to health, focus on habits that create a healthy, long-term lifestyle.
