Wendy Shooter is a chartered psychologist and creator of My PowerBar approach to Whole Human wellness. She is passionate about helping people to better understand what impacts their energy levels and giving them the resources to build the levels of energy they desire.
Tell us how you came to be in the role you are today…
Through my own life exploration and my work in organisations and private practice, I developed a real understanding of how personal energy impacts on all aspects of our lives and interactions. In addition to working as a psychologist, I am also a Spiritual Response Therapist, and have studied a number of other alternative therapies including sound healing, flower remedies and energy channelling, as well as being a student of yoga, dance and tai chi.
I developed the My PowerBar app to help individuals connect with their mental, emotional, spiritual and physical energy, and share ideas of how to boost these. I also run workshops, coaches individuals and is writing a book to help people max out their energy levels. I love running events with organisations to help them to work collaboratively and develop the cultures that will best serve them.
What would be your best advice to someone starting out on the same career path as you?
Discover what you are passionate about as well as where and how you want to make a difference and go for it! Things take time to grow, so don’t be disheartened if your dreams don’t manifest straight away. Belief and visualisation are important, but so is activity. To make things happen on planet earth we need to invest effort and show the universe we really mean it.
How do you relax when you’re not busy answering questions at I Quit Sugar?
Dancing and dogs is the short answer, though not at the same time! I have an amazing red setter called Gaia who makes sure I get out in the woods every day. I discovered swing dancing a few years ago and absolutely love it! It is amazingly fun and offers a wonderful sense of community that is not always easy to find in London. It really is fabulous for your Spirit PowerBar particularly!
What’s the hardest thing about your job?
Remembering I can’t do it for people – they need to want to do it!

Curiosity, empathy, hope, passion and kindness.
What do you enjoy most about working in your field?
Meeting so many people and constanly evolving my understanding of all that is different about humans and all that is the same. I love connecting with people in a way that helps them to be more of who they want to be.
What’s next on your horizon?
I am working with a college to do an academic study of the impact of the My PowerBar approach, as well as writing a book.
If you weren’t a Psychologist you would have been a…
Probation officer or landlady. Though I originally wanted to be an animal psychologist and did a project on penguin behaviour as part of my first degree.

Because it makes such a difference to people’s energy levels and life experience.
