Universal cup measurements

Resources - Measuring Cups

The IQS Team resides in (mostly) sunny Australia, where we love our Vegemite, ride kangaroos to work and use the metric system.

Okay… so maybe the kangaroo bit isn’t true, but we do use the metric system and it appears that our standard cup size is slightly different to the UK and USA.

To help our international buddies out, we’ve put together this handy conversion chart when it comes to figuring out those tricky universal measuring cups.

Australia UK USA Imperial
1 cup 250 mL 250 mL 236mL 8 3/4 fl oz
3/4 cup 180 mL 180 mL 175 mL 6 fl oz
1/2 cup 125 mL 125 mL 120 mL 4 fl oz
1/3 cup 80 mL 80 mL 75 mL 2 3/4 fl oz
1/4 cup 60 mL 60 mL 60 mL 2 fl oz
1 tbsp 20 mL 15 mL 16mL 3/4 fl oz
1 tsp 5 mL 5 mL 5 mL 1/6 fl oz

*Please note these are liquid measurements only.
