Plot twist… you’ve been making your smoothies all wrong!
We hate to break it to you, but piling every ingredient under the sun into your blender isn’t the way to make ‘em taste good!
The cliché “less is more” is totally true when it comes to our fave blends. In fact, we think you only need five ingredients…
1. Pick a liquid.
First things first, you have to choose the right liquid base for your blend. If you’re after a creamy drink, try one cup of almond or coconut milk – if you’re feeling fancy and want to show your gut some love, add some kefir! Want a refreshing fizz? Then reach for something a little lighter like one cup of coconut water or even some fruity kombucha.
2. Add some veg.
We talk all the time about getting in your 7–9 serves of veg a day. Well, what if we told you we could blitz up three of those serves and knock ‘em back in one hit? Welcome to the magic of smoothies. Throw in some greens such as peas, spinach or zucchini (you won’t even notice them!), and add a lil’ sweetness like a handful of blueberries or half a cup of sweet potato purée for a nutritionally-dense drink.
3. Boost it with protein.
No, we don’t mean adding chicken to your blender! Protein is hiding everywhere – it’s in spinach, nuts and seeds – so make sure to add a handful of them in. Or, to up the protein content even more, boost your smoothie with a scoop of protein powder. Post-workout snack, anyone?
4. Fill up with fat.
Adding some healthy fats will not only take the flavour of your smoothie to another level, but it’ll keep you satiated too. By simply popping in a teaspoon of nut or seed butter, or even a quarter of an avo, you’ll ensure your tum is full until your next meal.
5. Top it off!
Smoothie toppers are the perfect way to add a little crunch and a flavour kick to your blend. Sprinkle over some crunchy granola or crush up your fave protein ball for a taste explosion.
