Lisa knows what it’s like to eat for your health. After a whirlwind life of corporate stress and unchecked stress levels, Lisa was diagnosed with four autoimmune diseases: coeliac, Hashimoto’s, psoriasis and endometriosis. Hearing alarm bells signalling the need to take better care of herself, Lisa started downshiftology.com, a blog dedicated to the art of taking it “down a notch”.

Now a certified health coach, Lisa inspires her followers to eat exciting, nourishing and intolerance-friendly meals, no matter where her travels take her! It’s going to take all our willpower not to book a one-way ticket to California as she fills our Instagram feed with sunshine-drenched photos this weekend.

For now, we’re just going to pretend it’s *not* raining outside and try to live vicariously through our newest #followfriday friend…

Just, you know, walking along the sun-drenched gardens in Corona Del Mar, California. Sigh.

1. Where are you from and what do you do?

I was born in New Zealand, grew up in southern California and have lived in several countries. Let’s just say I’m a Cali girl… with heaps of Kiwi influence. I’m a certified health coach, wellness blogger, recipe developer and world traveler.

The only thing better than yoga on the edge of the Bali jungle? Cooling down afterwards with one of Lisa’s Mixed Berry Popsicles.

2. If you could go on a culinary adventure anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Anywhere and everywhere! I actually just got back from five months of amazing food adventures, traveling Sydney, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap and Bali. I’m a bit of a gastro tourist. As I’m coeliac, it’s also one of my goals to inspire others with food restrictions to travel the world and follow a whole foods lifestyle.

4. What’s your fave green veggie and how do you cook it?

I love all green veggies, but my favorites are spinach and chard. To cook, I’ll sauté either one with a little olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, sea salt and pepper. It’s simple, healthy and delicious.

Greens, glorious greens! We’re already trying to figure out how to recreate these grilled zucchini and eggplant creations.

5. What do you do in your downtime? 

There are some great hiking trails along the coast in California, so in my downtime you can find me outdoors combining a little exercise, sun and adventure.

Visible thong tan = a summer well spent. Plus darn good coffee at the Boat House Balmoral Beach… oh wait, that’s in Sydney! BRB.

6. Lastly, what did you eat for breakfast?

With the weather heating up in California, I’ve been on a smoothie bowl kick. This morning I had my Pitaya Smoothie Bowl, inspired by my recent trip to Bali.
