Fudgy Protein Bites

These Fudgy Protein Bites comes from I Quit Sugar for Life and contain the recipe for Basic Raw Chocolate, that can be jazzed up in numerous ways. Sarah says "I experimented with different ways of making chocolate for quite some time before arriving at what I believe to be the healthiest and 'sweetest' version".

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cups vanilla protein powder.
  • 1/2 cup chia seeds.
  • 1/3 cup maca powder, optional (if not using macca powder add a little extra protein powder).

Basic Raw Chocolate

  • 1/2 cup raw cacao butter, buttons or shavings (if you don't have any, use an additional 1/2 cup coconut oil instead).
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, softened.
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder.
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon rice malt syrup (or 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated stevia).
  • 2 pinches sea salt.

Directions

1. For the Basic Raw Chocolate, in a small saucepan over low heat, melt the cacao butter gently, stirring until smooth. Remove from the heat. Blend or mix with the rest of the ingredients until smooth and well combined. This should yield 1 1/3 cups.

2. For the Fudgy Protein Bites, throw the melted Basic Raw Chocolate, vanilla protein powder, chia seeds and maca powder (optional) or a little extra protein powder. You may wish to add the protein powder and chia a little at a time, allowing the mixture to thicken slightly before adding more.

3. Pour immediately into silicone moulds or cupcake cases and place in the fridge or freezer to harden.

We recommend Pureharvest rice malt syrup and Vital Protein vanilla protein powder.

We advise eating sweet foods like this one as occasional treats only. Also, we encourage you to cut the sweetener down even more if you can. We've made these without any sweetener at all and they're delicious. Read more on our stance here.
