After she was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian disease and endometriosis, doctors told Tahlia that natural conception was virtually impossible.
So, when she quit sugar to improve her health, she never expected to get the surprise of her life in just eight weeks time! Here’s the amazing story of Tahlia and her family.
At 15 I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian disease and was in constant pain.
This explained my inability to lose vast amounts of weight. At this stage I was told that natural conception would be difficult. Then at 18 I was diagnosed with endometriosis and was told natural conception was out of the question.
Obviously, I was gutted. I had a steady partner and breaking the news to him was heartbreaking. After hearing all this, I decided that as natural conception wasn’t an option, protection was no longer necessary. So I made the decision to go off the pill.
I was told natural conception was out of the question.
Three years later I found your 8-Week Program and the I Quit Sugar book, and even got my partner onto it.
I started watching what I was eating and putting into my body and made recipes from the book. Then, eight weeks after quitting sugar, without even trying, we naturally conceived our first child!
Obviously, we were stunned! After being told by a top gynaecologist that natural conception was not an option we beat the odds.
Eight weeks after quitting sugar we naturally conceived our first child!
My doctor was just as amazed when we told him the only thing we had done was cut out sugar.
At 13 weeks I went for my first ultrasound and we saw our perfect little baby. The radiographer looked at both my ovaries and asked me how long I had been through IVF for and when I told her “never,” she was shocked that this was a natural conception considering how bad my illnesses were.
I cannot thank IQS enough for giving me the opportunity to do something I never thought I would be able to and that is to naturally conceive. And be a mother to my own flesh and blood!
I’m still learning new things about how sugar affects my PCOS.
My journey is one I feel that will never be over. With sugar being all around us all the time the temptation is always there, but I also know I have the energy that new mums aren’t meant to have.
The pain from PCOS and endometriosis has lessened, and I know that when I have a “cheat” food as they call it, I can feel the next day. I feel sluggish, I get cramps, I wake up almost feeling like I have morning sickness.
My weight continues to fluctuate, which is my part of my disease, but I am 15kg smaller than before I fell pregnant. I credit that to us watching our sugar intake as a family.

We’re now a sugar-free family.
Melody is now nearly two years old and doing really well! I’ve even got my husband into checking the nutritional labels on all his food products. He comes home from the shops so happy that he’s found a new product “with less than one per cent sugar”.
Quitting sugar has changed our outlook on life in more ways than one!
