For years, Taylor thought that calorie counting was the answer to her weight issues – regardless of the type of food she ate. But she was deeply unhappy, and her sweet tooth was out of control.
Before I quit sugar, I really had no clue how much of it I was eating.
I could easily eat an entire block of chocolate, followed by a bag of Maltesers!
Then my boyfriend bought Sarah’s I Quit Sugar book online when we were living in the UK. Soft drinks and chocolate aside, I was shocked to learn how much sugar was in the pasta sauces, curry sauces, juices and “healthy” bars I was eating.
Sarah wasn’t lying when she said quitting sugar is like coming off “hard” drugs.
The first two weeks were hell. I had the shakes, I wanted to fall asleep at 2pm and I was STARVING all the time. But once we got into the swing I started to feel fantastic – I had energy for the first time since I was a kid!
All the extra tips and tricks Sarah has throughout the book helped a LOT.
It was so comforting for me to know that it was okay to slip up sometimes and that this was ultimately a lifestyle change rather than just another diet.
I especially love that almost nothing goes to waste in her recipes.

I nearly died when I bought a size eight dress for my birthday in September! I’ve been a size 12–14 for the past two years and a size 14–16 before that.
As a result of all of the extra energy I felt motivated to get off my bum and get moving. I have always loved walking but I now run… I RUN!
Quitting sugar was by far the best thing I’ve ever done for my health.
Not only because I’ve dropped a lot of weight, but also because I feel like my body is happy.
I’m making myself better on the inside. And as a result, I look and feel better on the outside.
I don’t feel bloated and sluggish anymore, and I don’t crave sweet things like I used to. My energy levels have soared and I sleep a lot better. I had such bad pimply skin before, and now I rarely get a break out!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect. I do enjoy a sneaky piece of dark chocolate every now and then! But Sarah’s wellness philosophies have greatly impacted my life. I recommend it to anyone who asks me about it.
I have gotten my family onto the sugar-free wagon too!
I recently bought the I Quit Sugar; Simplicious book and I think my mum has already read it cover to cover! We regularly eat meals from the book and there isn’t any way we would go back to old habits now.
