THE SCIENCE

Here's how food and skin actually connect.

The gut-skin axis is one of the most consistent findings in recent dermatology research. Three mechanisms matter:

One: glycation. When you eat refined carbs and sugar, blood glucose rises. Excess glucose molecules attach themselves to proteins in the body — including the collagen and elastin in your skin — through a process called glycation. Glycated collagen is stiff, fragile, and visibly ages skin.

Two: insulin and androgens. Insulin spikes drive insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which in turn drives sebum production and disrupts the skin's barrier. This is one of the most-supported dietary mechanisms behind adult acne.

Will this clear my acne?
