"I Haven't Had a Migraine Since I Quit Sugar": How the 8-Week Program Healed this Aussie's Chronic Pain

Like many of us, Jess Munns was raised to believe there were "good" and "bad" foods, but this Aussie had no idea that fat-rich, hearty meals weren't the enemy she was told they were. In fact, she credits the 8-Week Program's whole foods-based recipes for helping her combat her debilitating IBS symptoms and chronic migraines.

While her initial goal was to address her IBS issues and chronic migraines, what Jess discovered went beyond physical health—it transformed her relationship with food entirely.

"I’ve always struggled with my relationship with food," Jess says. "Over the years, my weight went up and down as I tried different diets or just being “good”, only to fall into the shame spiral of dieting and bingeing."

Before the Program

Moving to Australia with her husband provided Jess with a fresh start, a perfect opportunity to confront her sugar addiction head-on. With trepidation but determination, she dove into the I Quit Sugar Program, admitting that, initially, there were tears and overwhelming stress.

"I was really worried about my lack of willpower and I was a bit emotional in the first couple of weeks," Jess says. "I had a cry for no reason in the shower and threw some bacon at my husband in a Sunday Cook-Up!"

But soon enough, the cravings subsided, replaced by a newfound sense of calm and a distinct lack of airborne meat products. (Always a good thing, we say!)

The journey wasn't a solitary one for Jess. The support she found in the IQS community, both on forums and social media, was a driving force behind her success. Sharing experiences, recipes, and victories with like-minded individuals from around the world made her feel part of something bigger—a family committed to reclaiming their health. And that's what we're all about on the 8-Week Program; sharing our challenges, our successes and our support.

"It was so helpful to read other stories of other  going on the same journey as you, I really felt for those whose families weren’t being supportive and a wakeup call hearing for those people who had waited a long time to address their addiction and where suffering physically and mentally because of it."

After the Program

While Jess saw improvements in her IBS symptoms and bid farewell to her chronic migraines, the most profound change was in her mindset. No longer a slave to sugar's allure, she experienced a sense of liberation—a freedom from guilt and shame around food.

Jess's husband, a chef, was equally impressed by the Program's recipes. Our dishes not only met his high expectations buds but also sparked a newfound appreciation for wholesome, nourishing meals.

"He really liked the carrot and kale fritters and the winter Caesar salad (he said he would put both on a menu in a restaurant)."

If a chef gives you the thumbs up, you know you're doing something right!

Jess says it's not just about the delicious meals that make eating well so easy, it's also about the way she sees food. After years of restrictive dieting and an unhealthy relationship with eating, Jess says she's finally broken free from the shame cycle that locks so many sugar addicts in.

"So for me it was more about the calmness not being stuck in a sugar cycle has brought to my life and for the first time not feeling guilty about eating."

In Jess's journey, we find inspiration—a reminder that change is possible, and that true freedom from sugar's grip is within reach for those who dare to embark on the journey. Her advice to others?

"Be brave, sign up. All you have to lose is your sweet tooth!"
