“We Lost 17 Kilos!” How This Aussie Mum and Her Husband Tag Teamed the 8-Week Program

Mum of two Tamsin knew she had a problem with sugar and relying on the sweet stuff as an emotional crutch – an all too familiar story. But after joining the 8-Week Program, she found herself actually enjoying eating well. And, well, the results speak for themselves.

"Even my kids have said, 'Mummy’s big tummy has gone,' which just feels absolutely amazing,” Tamsin said. My husband has also lost 7 kilos! While admittedly, he struggled more than me because his colleagues were always offering him cake and biscuits, he pushed through, and now he looks fantastic.”

As parents of two young kids, Tamsin and her husband were used to being strapped for time and stressed out, leading to a sedentary lifestyle and a blood-sugar spiking diet – the worst part? She didn’t realise how bad it had gotten until she started to notice the excess weight that had gradually built up, bringing with it an increased risk for chronic disease, not to mention the effects it can have on mood and energy levels.

“My husband and I loved to put our feet up and sip a sweet cider in the evening," she says. “I never felt satisfied and always dished up greedy, massive portions, not realising when I was full. But it never even crossed my mind that I was addicted because I just enjoyed eating so much.

“I had previously tried to lose weight, but I’d never been able to keep the weight off, and, to be honest I didn’t really have the motivation, plus, with two young kids, I didn’t think I had the time either!”

That’s when Tamsin came across the I Quit Sugar Cookbook, piquing her interest into cutting out the sweet stuff and taking back control of her life.

“I went home and followed the Facebook page, thinking it might be something I’d like to try eventually,” she says. “I was the heaviest weight I’d ever been and I was really uncomfortable. I knew something had to change so I went and bought the book and we started the 8-Week Program together!”

To her surprise, withdrawal symptoms weren’t an issue –some of our members find they feel a little off after ditching their unhealthy eating habits. You may experience headaches, fatigue, mood swings, cravings and even flu-like symptoms when you first get yourself off the sweet stuff. But for Tamsin, the absence of these symptoms were a welcome surprise. 

“While we prepped for excruciating withdrawal symptoms, they never came. It also inspired us to try new things,” she says. “The Program was laid out in a way that kept me focused and excited about all the new foods I was eating – and all of a sudden I felt full after meals. 

The best bit? My appetite no longer controls my day.”

The result? Tamsin has successfully shed the weight that had begun to control her life – and she’s not alone; her husband lost 7 kilos over the 8 weeks, giving them a combined loss of 17 kilos.

“To date, I’ve lost 10 kilos and 22 inches.”

“It's not as hard as you think it's going to be,” she says. “And, if you can find a buddy to embark on your journey with, it will help you too.”
